Time is running out. The mission of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States. This is our final push to Congress and there won’t be another opportunity. We NEED the #SaveOurStagesAct and the #RestartAct passed in order to keep independent venues nationwide from closing permanently. Please help us #SaveOurStages now.
Venues like Northern Star Theatre Company depend on ticket revenue, donations, and show sponsorship to continue our tradition of live entertainment in Rice Lake and Barron County. Our average ticket revenue is approximately $60,000 per year. Due to the COVID pandemic, we were one of the first to close our doors and we will be the last to open our doors. We have no other means of generating revenue while our business is not able to operate. It is imperative that we persuade legislators to pass the #SaveOurStagesAct and the #RestartAct to help venues just like ours from closing forever.
Your voice matters — Tell your legislators to save independent music venues!
It is with a heavy heart that we have made the devastating decision to cancel both our summer productions “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “The Music Man.” After much discussion we determined that it is simply not possible to properly implement the appropriate social-distancing and safety measures we feel will be necessary at every show as well as throughout the rehearsal process. Our cast, crew, volunteers and audience members are our top priority; if we cannot guarantee the health and safety of all our stakeholders, the show simply cannot go on. For 24 years our summers have been filled with the excitement of creating magic on the Northern Star stage and we are heartbroken that this summer our stage will be dark. We are considering several different options that will allow us to bring theater to all of you so we encourage you to stay tuned for details coming soon!
Ticket sales account for approximately 85% of our income here at NSTC. Cancelling a production results in a significant loss of revenue for our theater. Without revenue, we struggle to pay for licensing for shows, purchase materials for sets and costumes and make necessary upgrades to our sound and light equipment.
In these uncertain times, there are still a number of ways you can support Northern Star so that we can still be here after this crisis to bring your favorite productions to the stage. Some of the ways you can support us right now include:
Become a show Sponsor for an upcoming production! Your Show Sponsorship at any level is tax-deductible.
Purchase tickets NOW for a show later this season
Purchase gift cards to be used at a later date.
Make a tax-deductible donation to the theater
Thank you for your support of Northern Star Theatre Company as your friendship means so much to us. Please take good care of yourself and your family. We look forward to welcoming you back to Northern Star Theatre Company soon.
Sincerely, Nicolle Orson and Amy Myers Executive Directors Northern Star Theatre Company
